Majestic route on the southest peaks of Parco Nazionale dello Stelvio

DURATION: 6 hours

DISTANCE (ascent only): 9,1 km

DIFFERENCE IN HEIGHT: 1.930 m

HIGHEST POINT: 3.179 m

STARTING POINT: Parking Plan (1250 m) near the cross country slopes

ITINERARY

ASCENT: go through the cross country ski slopes and follow the road to Malga Fratte Bassa first and Malga Maleda Stablaz Bassa/ Malga Maleda Stablaz Alta (2.079) then. After this point the environment is really wild and unspoilt with no trak of humans. Climb in north-west direction passing through a very steep groove just above Malga Maleda Alta and reach the main dip that will lead you at the top. After a long and continuous climb you will reach a pass. From there go to the left to cima Cavaion (3140m) or go to the right to Cima Pontevecchio (see gpx) 3179m. The last part to the cross of Cima Pontevecchio is very steep and you will need to take off yous skis and wear crampons. Pay attention to emerging rocks.
